Orthopaedic Associates began with William B. Owen, M.D., one of the first surgeons in Kentucky and the first in Louisville to do orthopedic surgery exclusively. He established the Orthopaedic Division of the Surgical Department at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1940. Dr. Owen was one of the founding members of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. He is also remembered for his efforts in creating the Kentucky Crippled Children's' Commission in the early 1920's and was the pioneer in numerous procedures with the treatment of adults and children.

Orthopaedic Associates has evolved considerably since its foundation with Dr. Owen over 80 years ago.

Frank O. Bonnarens, M.D. (meet Dr. Bonnarens) joined the practice in 1993. Navin R. Kilambi, M.D. (meet Dr. Kilambi) joined the group in 2002.

Orthopaedic Associates currently practices orthopaedic surgery with emphasis on limited invasive arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, fracture care and joint replacement surgery. Using state of the art equipment and technical advances in surgery, almost all of our procedures occur on an outpatient basis with the patient returning home the same day.

With multiple satellite offices (see location of offices), we offer quick and flexible scheduling of appointments at a location that provides convenient access from wherever you live. We also work with a number of physical therapy centers all around Kentuckiana, making therapy visits easier to attend.

Our goal is to return our patients to the life and activities that they had prior to injury. For our patients with work injuries, we work closely with workman's compensation case managers and employers to make the transition back to work safe and productive.

As the longest standing general orthopaedic group in the Kentuckiana area, we take pride in our reputation, we stay on top of the latest technologies, and we work cooperatively with our patients to produce the most reliable and successful outcomes. We look forward to taking care of you.
